Oshiomhole escapes death as trailer crashes into convoy, 2 cops killed

Former chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole missed death by the whiskers on Tuesday, when a trailer crashed into the party’s campaign convoy at Benin Bye-Pass.


While Oshionmhole was lucky, two policemen in the convoy died in the accident at Oluku Junction.

It was not clear whether the APC candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu was also embedded in the convoy.


The accident was being seen by some members of Oshiomhole’s party as staged by the political opponents, while some said it was just a normal accident.


The gravity of the accident and the fatalities involved led the party to suspend further campaign, according to a statement issued after the accident.


No member received N20m as COVID-19 relief’ — senate tackles Ojougboh

Basiru said this in reaction to a statement credited to Cairo Ojougboh, executive director of projects at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).


Ojougboh said senators and members of the house of representatives got N20 million and N15 million respectively as COVID-19 relief.


“In the national assembly, each of the senators got N20 million, while the house of representatives members got N15 million for COVID-19 from the national assembly,” the director had said.


But in a statement on Tuesday, Basiru said Ojougboh should provide evidence to back up his claim or retract it.


“The senate views with grave concern a statement credited to Dr Cairo Ojougboh, the Executive Director, Projects of the NDDC who alleged that National Assembly members received varying sums of money as COVID – 19 palliative. The senate hereby disclaims the allegation in its entirety,” he said.


“The Senate categorically denies that any Senator collected the sum of N20 million or any sum whatsoever from NDDC as COVID-19 relief fund for any purpose whatsoever.

Fani-Kayode has come under intense criticism after he verbally attacked a Daily Trust reporter in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.


Gunmen Abduct General Hospital Chief, Two Others In Ondo

Dr Adeogun was abducted at gunpoint along with two other persons with him in his vehicle on Monday night.


The incident occurred around Owani along the Idoani Road in Ose Local Government Area of the state.


They were said to be on their way to Owo town before they were accosted by the armed men who took them away to an undisclosed location.


The Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Police Command, Tee-Leo Ikoro, confirmed the incident to Channels Television on Tuesday.


2023 Presidency: Candidacy Cannot Emerge On Tribal Basis, Says Uzodinma

Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, believes the emergence of the candidates for the presidential election in 2023 should not be on a tribal basis.


He stated this on Tuesday while briefing State House correspondents after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.


“We are practicing partisan democracy, not tribal democracy. So, the emergence of presidential candidates will come on a party-by-party basis, not tribe-by-tribe basis,” the governor said.


Adamawa To Shut Down Schools For Reopening Without Govt Approval

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Adamawa State Government has threatened to shut down primary schools in the state for reopening without approval.


The Commissioner for Education, Wilbina Jackson, disclosed this on Tuesday during a meeting with the state chapter of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools in Yola.


To Jackson, the COVID-19 guidelines must be followed by all stakeholders to prevent the spread of the virus in the state.


“The National Policy on education did not state that primary six should write Common Entrance, that is what we explained to them.


Atiku has lost his sense of economic importance’ —APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) said on Tuesday ex-Vice President Abubakar Atiku was out of tune with current realities across the world.


The party was reacting to Atiku’s recent appeal to the National Assembly to reject future loan requests by the current administration.


The APC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Yekini Nabena, who stated this in a chat with journalists in Abuja, added that the ex-vice president was only looking for relevance.


He said: “We are not disturbed by former vice president Abubakar Atiku’s letter to the National Assembly, because he has lost his sense of economic importance.


“The present administration is not like that of the PDP. They took loans and put the projects only on paper with nothing to show for the loans.
